How much does the ‘Bakfiets’ Cargo Trike weigh ?
Around 125+ kg, depending on the model and accessories. Though they are big and heavy they're surprisingly safe and easy to handle and (assuming it's flat) quite easy to pedal. You ride at a jogging pace with a 1:1 gear ratio and the big wheels and truck-type leaf springs help your load float over any road surface. These bikes were, after all, designed before the roads were paved. How is the Classic Trike different to the Industrial Trike ?
The Classic Trike comes with a beautiful mahogany box, it’s is a real eye catcher and is ideal for commercial use. Perfect for moving house, selling coffee, sandwiches or groceries at a market. We have many options to customize the box for commercial purposes. The Industrial trike has a waterproof reinforced plywood box with a stainless steel edge. It’s super tough and more suited for ‘rougher’ working environments like warehouses, landscaping, construction sites and refineries. Almost all industrial trikes are purchased with the optional hinged front door. Allowing for easy loading and unloading of heavy or large objects. What’s the difference between the M, L and XL sizes ?

Yes, you can purchase a size M, L or XL bare chassis with or without electric assist and build your own box. If you purchase the chassis you’ll also receive the steering handlebar and the box stabilizer arm. The stabilizer arm pivots down and prevents the box swinging from side to side during loading, unloading and while parked. Can you build me a coffee trike with a working espresso machine ?
Please note WorkCycles does not build complete ready-to-use coffee or catering trikes. If you are looking to purchase a complete working coffee trike we recommend ordering through Coffee Latino
as they use our trike as the base for a complete coffee vending set-up. For customers looking to build their own coffee or catering trike, there are a few options. You can order just the chassis and build your own box. You can order the trike with the box and modify the box yourself. Or you can order the trike with the box and some of the custom options - such as; a well in the front end of the box to house a water or gas bottle, a pull out drawer that can function as a cash box, doors in the side panels to allow for easy access to your equipment, a fold up table for extra serving space or a mini table on the rear carrier. The standard height of the box lid / work surface (from the ground) is an ideal working / vending / serving height. If you prefer to build your own box don’t make it too high, otherwise it won’t be practical for vending.
The most common basic setup for a WorkCycles vending trike is:
- Classic Trike, Size L
- Work surface
- Canopy with frame
- Stabilizer legs
- folding front tableDo you have plans that you can supply for building my own box ?

The trikes are low maintenance and we sell all the parts you’ll need for performing repairs on our trikes. The most commonly replaced parts are the tires, inner tubes, brake shoes, chainring and sprocket. WorkCycles parts are specifically for WorkCycles bicycles and tricycles, worldwide shipping is available.Does it come in an electric assist version ?
Yes, however it isn't possible to mount a simple city bike electric assist motor on a heavy duty transport trike that weighs around 125+ kg. We have designed a system specifically for the Classic and Industrial Trikes - a combination of a robust crank assist motor, powerful 48v battery and industrial grade disc brakes on the front axle. The Motor model is a Bafang BBS02 750w with a cotter-less crankshaft. The drivetrain set-up is 30T - 26t, behind our standard trike chain cover. The battery is mounted on a bar between the bumper and seat stay. The battery has a switch and plug on the right side. The switch functions as a fuse to protect against a power overload and also as a protection for the motor. An additional second battery set can also be mounted. Remember that the trike is designed to be pedaled under a heavy load without electric assistance. The electric assistance does not turn the trike into an electric motorcycle, it simply relieves you of the effort involved in pedaling the heavy load. If you are unsure on whether you need electric assistance just contact us with your plans for the trike and we will advise.I already have one of your Classic / Industrial Trikes, can it be converted to electric assist ?
Not easily, the bottom bracket on the Classic / Industrial trike frame is specific to the trike and not like regular city bikes. We make a separate electric assist Trike chassis, which is different to the standard non-electric assist chassis. Therefore you need to think about whether or not you need electric assist before purchasing. Converting to electric assist means purchasing an entire chassis with our electric assist system installed and transferring your existing box to the new chassis. Doing this only really makes sense if you have a coffee trike or a custom box that was expensive or time consuming to build.I have a vintage Classic ‘Bakfiets’ Trike, not a WorkCycles Trike, do you sell parts for old-timers ?
Our trikes are the very last of these old-fashioned Dutch "bakfietsen” in production and they're still fabricated right here in the Netherlands. The overall look and design of these trikes has hardly changed in 100 years, but some of the features have been modernized. The threading on bolts and nuts, bottom bracket size and bearings are not the same as on the old vintage trikes. Therefore we only recommend our parts for our trikes.
